Welcome to our surgery website where we hope you will quickly benefit from a user friendly layout and a wealth of information. We welcome comments and suggestions for what else you would like to see on the website!
Each member of the health care team provides specific services to our patients.
In addition to providing general medical care, all of our GPs have their own specific interest.
Orthopaedics: Dr Akhtar and Dr Gabel offer joint injections.
Minor Ops clinic: Dr Akhtar now offers a monthly clinic for minor surgery.
Women's health and infertility: Dr Widders has an interest in women's health and infertility.
Diabetes: We aim to provide a comprehensive service to our diabetic patients. Dr Trueman and Dr Orlando Terreros are trained and experienced in the challenging task of managing this group of patients. They are supported by our practice nurses, Val and Sarah, who do annual diabetic checks and medication reviews, as well as our Healthcare Assistants who provide diabetic foot checks. Retinopathy screening is done by a mobile unit at the surgery, from time to time.
Our Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses who have undertaken masters degree level training in order to develop a knowledge base and clinical competencies to manage both acute and chronic medical conditions. They are qualified to assess and examine patients with undiagnosed illnesses, prescribe medication and make referrals for a wide range of medical conditions.
Our three practice nurses provide a wide range of services. These include chronic disease management, and medication reviews for conditions like asthma, COPD, hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. They also do dressings, smears, childhood and travel vaccinations, and provide contraception advice.
Our two health care assistants do phlebotomy (taking blood samples), BP and health checks, ECGs, Diabetic footchecks and some vaccinations like 'flu jabs. They are also involved in many "behind the scenes" activities which help the practice to function smoothly.
To help us offer the appropriate advice, print off, fill in and return a completed Travel Questionnaire to reception. These can also be obtained from the reception desk. One of our nurses will review your form, then contact you with advice and make any necessary appointments.
Information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to fill in our travel questionnaire as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - to ensure that an appointment can be made with the practice nurse to receive the vaccinations in plenty of time. Your appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe a very useful booklet has been published with advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your holiday. To visit please click:- http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/eu_glance/86/en.pdf (this is a large document and may take a minute or two to view)
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
Ashby Turn Primary Care Centre offer all patients over the age of 75 a Care Review.
We also offer an Information Booklet which contains information about the services which are offered by Ashby Turn and contact details for other services which you may find useful. A copy of this booklet is available below or can be collected from the surgery.
